Swim Safe Kenya (SSK) has once again demonstrated its leadership in aquatic training and water safety development after accounting for 15 out of the 29 lifeguards who enrolled and successfully completed the Kenya Swimming Teachers and Coaches Association (KSTCA) training program.

The graduates have officially qualified as Level 1 Swimming Coaches, marking a major milestone not only for the individuals but also for Swim Safe Kenya’s continued contribution to professional swimming education in Kenya.

Raising the Bar in Aquatic Training

The KSTCA Level 1 Swimming Coaches Course is a nationally recognized program designed to equip lifeguards with foundational coaching skills, teaching methodologies, swimmer safety principles, and effective lesson planning. Graduating from this program signifies a transition from basic lifesaving to professional swimming instruction.

With more than half of the graduating cohort coming from Swim Safe Kenya, the organization’s dominance reflects the strength of its training curriculum, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

From Lifeguards to Certified Coaches

The newly certified coaches underwent intensive training covering:

  • Fundamentals of swimming instruction
  • Coaching ethics and professionalism
  • Swimmer development and safety
  • Lesson organization and communication skills
  • Practical pool-based coaching sessions

Their success highlights Swim Safe Kenya’s emphasis on continuous professional development, ensuring that lifeguards are not only rescue-ready but also capable of nurturing swimmers from beginner to advanced levels.

Strengthening Water Safety Through Coaching

Swimming coaches play a critical role in drowning prevention, early skill development, and long-term water confidence. By producing a large number of qualified coaches, Swim Safe Kenya is directly contributing to safer pools, schools, and aquatic facilities across the country.

“This achievement reinforces our mission of advocating for water safety by developing highly skilled professionals who can teach, protect, and inspire swimmers,” an SSK representative noted.

A Win for Kenya’s Aquatics Community

The strong presence of Swim Safe Kenya graduates within the KSTCA program underscores the organization’s growing influence in Kenya’s aquatics sector. These coaches are now well-positioned to serve in schools, swimming academies, hotels, community pools, and competitive swimming programs.

As demand for certified swimming instructors continues to rise, Swim Safe Kenya remains committed to equipping its trainees with globally relevant skills while maintaining high safety and coaching standards.

Looking Ahead

Swim Safe Kenya continues to run ongoing training programs in:

  • Lifeguarding
  • Swimming instruction
  • Water safety education
  • Coaching development and refresher courses

This latest achievement marks yet another step toward the organization’s vision of zero drowning incidents and increased access to quality swimming education across Kenya.
