Swim Safe Kenya (SSK), in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross and Nairobi City County, is set to host a Joint Major Drowning Prevention Campaign Walk aimed at raising awareness about water safety and mobilizing communities to take action against drowning.

The campaign walk will take place on Saturday, 25th July 2026, starting at 7:30 AM from City Hall Way, Nairobi.

Walking Together to Prevent Drowning

Under the powerful message “Prevent Drowning, Save Lives,” the campaign brings together key stakeholders and members of the public to promote awareness of drowning prevention and the importance of water safety.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment by Swim Safe Kenya, the Kenya Red Cross, and Nairobi City County to build safer communities by ensuring that people have access to essential water safety information and life-saving skills.

Drowning can happen quickly and unexpectedly, making prevention, awareness, and preparedness essential. Through this campaign, organizers aim to encourage individuals, families, schools, and communities to take water safety seriously and learn practical ways of staying safe around swimming pools, rivers, lakes, dams, and other water environments.

Water Safety Saves Lives

At the heart of the campaign is a simple but powerful message:

Water Safety Saves Lives.

Swimming is more than a sport. Learning how to swim, understanding water safety, knowing how to respond during an emergency, and ensuring appropriate supervision around water can all contribute to safer communities.

The campaign will provide an opportunity to bring the conversation about drowning prevention into the public space and encourage more Kenyans to become advocates for water safety.

A United Call for Action

The campaign is built around three key objectives:

Raise Awareness

Creating greater public understanding of drowning risks and the importance of prevention.

Promote Water Safety

Encouraging individuals and communities to embrace safe practices whenever they are in or around water.

Prevent Drowning

Supporting education, awareness, and community action aimed at reducing preventable drowning incidents.
