Murang’a County joined the global community in celebrating World Aquatics Day 2026 during a vibrant and educational event held at Vidhu Ramji School. The event brought together swimmers, coaches, students, teachers, parents, and aquatic stakeholders in a united effort to promote water safety, swimming education, and drowning prevention.
The celebration was organized by Kenya Aquatics in partnership with Murang’a Aquatics, reaffirming their shared commitment to building safer communities through aquatic education and increasing awareness about the importance of learning to swim.
Promoting Swimming as a Life-Saving Skill
World Aquatics Day serves as an important reminder that swimming is much more than a recreational activity or competitive sport—it is a life-saving skill. With drowning remaining one of the leading causes of preventable deaths, especially among children and young people, initiatives that promote water safety are essential.
Participants at the event took part in activities designed to educate and inspire the community on:
- Water safety awareness
- Drowning prevention strategies
- The importance of learning to swim
- Safe behavior in and around water
- The value of aquatic sports in promoting healthy lifestyles
The event also provided an opportunity for young swimmers to showcase their talents while encouraging more children and families to embrace swimming as an essential life skill.
Supporting the Mission of Swim Safe Kenya
As an organization dedicated to advocating for water safety, Swim Safe Kenya (SSK) applauds the efforts of Kenya Aquatics and Murang’a Aquatics in organizing this impactful event.
SSK believes that increasing access to swimming lessons and water safety education is one of the most effective ways to reduce drowning incidents across Kenya. Through partnerships with schools, communities, government institutions, and aquatic organizations, Swim Safe Kenya continues to champion programs that equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe in and around water.
Working Together to Prevent Drowning
Drowning is preventable, and community awareness remains one of the strongest tools in saving lives. Events such as World Aquatics Day create valuable opportunities to educate the public on the importance of water safety while encouraging collaboration among stakeholders committed to protecting lives.
By investing in swimming education, training lifeguards, promoting survival swimming, and supporting public awareness campaigns, Kenya can make significant progress toward reducing drowning incidents nationwide.
Building a Safer Future
Swim Safe Kenya congratulates Kenya Aquatics, Murang’a Aquatics, Vidhu Ramji School, and everyone who contributed to the successful celebration of World Aquatics Day 2026.
Together, we can create communities where every child and adult has the opportunity to learn to swim, understand water safety, and develop the confidence to enjoy aquatic environments safely.
Let us continue working together to build a safer Kenya—one swimmer, one community, and one life at a time.
